Jonathan Winter

Jonathan has been lead counsel in Post-Grant (IPR) proceedings at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and has been lead trial counsel handling jury trials, Markman hearings, depositions and summary judgment motions.  He has additionally been lead appellate counsel at the Federal Circuit, including obtaining a reversal at the Federal Circuit in an appeal from a pending patent application.

Jonathan has also developed a strong practice in the Blockchain technology area, representing several companies in patent, trademark matters and related litigation and disputes.

Jonathan is a mechanical engineer with substantial electrical and software experience. He prepares and prosecutes U.S. and foreign patents in a variety of fields including industrial machinery, blow molded articles, medical devices, consumer products, software technologies such as mobile phone management systems, communications systems and automated controls for industrial machinery. Prior to Law School, Jonathan developed and implemented an automated control program for aluminum rolling mills.

Jonathan has a passion for Aerospace and is an FAA licensed private pilot with an instrument rating. In college, he was a member of the Lehigh Micro Aerial Vehicle team, which designed, developed and tested radio controlled planes for competition. Jonathan and his team presented their research as keynote speakers at the American Institute for Astronautics and Aeronautics and the American Helicopter Society chapters in Philadelphia. 

While in law school, Jonathan was a multiple time United States National Rowing Team member, competing at a number of World Cup and World Championship events and winning the Head of the Charles Regatta, a silver medal at World Championships and multiple national championships.  Jonathan also won the Lake Placid Ironman in 2012 and is an avid speedskater.

• Lead counsel in an IPR which successfully defended the validity of a patent by swearing behind a reference

• Lead counsel in the Federal Circuit arguing to affirm an IPR decision

• Obtained a reversal at the Federal Circuit of a rejection in a pending patent application

• Lead counsel in a Jury Trial finding improper use of his client’s trade secrets/know how

• Obtained transfer of a lawsuit out of the Eastern District of Texas to Connecticut for lack of jurisdiction

• Successfully defended his client in a Multi District litigation concerning printing technology patents

• Represented photographer in lawsuit alleging infringement of over 80 photographs by a multi-national video game distributor and designer and obtained an amicable resolution.
